Raid! - Lion Rampant Battle Report

My son and I had our second game of Dark Ages Lion Rampant a couple of weeks ago. I lost. Again!

Here's a Dropbox Link and a Google Drive Link to a PDF version which is bigger and easier to read.

My son played very defensively this game. In fact, I remember saying to him a couple of times during the game that he'd better do something otherwise he'd be in trouble. Famous last words. Afterwards, he told me that I always rushed in to attack so he kept everyone back and close together with his leader in the middle ready to help wherever needed. Worked out well for him, didn't it. Crafty boy! Still, if my Fierce Foot hadn't run away it might have been a different story! Next time (if I keep on saying it it might come true!).

All miniatures were painted by the inimitable Matt Slade of Glenbrook Games and are mostly Artizan figures apart from Freydis who is a GW Eowyn. The Church is from the most excellent Adrian's Walls, the scatter terrain from Alley Cat Studios and the trees are aquarium decorations!

Even More Frostgrave Terrain...and a 'How-To'!

I've finished a third bit of scatter terrain for Frostgrave. A couple of people have asked me to show photos of the work-in-progress so, although I'm sure most of you are much more accomplished than I at this sort of thing, here goes...

Renedra Bases
Large Stone Bricks from Pegasus Hobbies glued together using Wood Glue for the walls.
A few Cork Boulders along with large Cork Granules and a Coarse Basing mix for the ground.
Plastic shield and helmet from the Frostgrave Soldiers box.

The whole thing liberally soaked with a 60:40 mix of wood glue and water.

Undercoated with a black Primer.

A coat of Charcoal applied to everything except the floor tiles.

Floor tiles given a coat of (the dodgy-sounding) Ruby Ring.

Another coat of Ruby Ring and the shield given a coat of Chaotic Red.

The tiles given a coat of Opulence.

The rest of the piece is drybrushed with a 50:50 mix of Charcoal and Fountain.
Same very lightly on the helmet and shield.

More drybrushing.
First with Fountain and then with a 50:50 mix of Fountain and Silver Birch.
Finally with a very light drybrush of Silver Birch.

Shield and Helmet given a light drybrush of Gun Metal.

Shield and Helmet given a light drybrush of Weapon Bronze.

Tiles given a wash of Dark Tone ink.

Here's the almost finished piece...

The final touch was to give a light wash of Green Ink to the helmet and shield to give it that aged look.

I'm quite pleased with it...especially considering this is just the third bit of terrain I've ever made. Any advice from all you old-hands is more than welcome!

New Blog Header Pic

I just updated the blog header pic with an image from our latest Dark Ages Lion Rampant game...a clash between two opposing lots of Fierce Foot! It was a great game. I lost. Again. Will post up an AAR as soon as I get a chance.

"We've just received the latest sculpts from Ian Mountain, two more guardians and their mystical warlord leader! we'll be sending these off to the mould maker this weekend."

Looking good!

More Frostgrave Terrain!

And I've finished my second bit of scatter terrain for Frostgrave! Pretty much just a larger version of the first piece. I'm really enjoying making these! Here are a few more pics...
